Should I E-Comm?

That’s a big MAYBE comrade.

E-Commerce has some pretty blindingly good pros going for it. Here are a few:

➤ The world has never been more accessible.
➤ It’s growing, exponentially.
➤ It is a ‘do anywhere at any time’ business model.
➤ CASH MONEY YO.

But with a list of pro’s, must come the cons. When it comes to e-commerce the majority of cons come from unrealistic expectations or unwillingness to do the hard yards to make it big.

We’ve seen a few come and go over our time, and the formula for failure seems to be eerily familiar each time.

Here are some reasons NOT to start an e-comm biz:

➤ You think it’s easy. It’s not, it’s really really not. It takes hard work, time & money. You will have good days and bad days, followed by good weeks and bad weeks. There is no guaranteed meteoric rise to the top of Money Mountain.

➤ You’re not willing to invest in advertising. From the outside looking in, conversion based advertising looks miraculous, but from the inside, it takes time to build a working sales funnel which means being ok with investing money without an initial return and playing the long game.

➤ You see a cheap trend that went wild, so you try to be that cheap trend. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, but there has to be a better reason for people to buy a from you than just because you’re selling. The best e-comm brands have a reason behind them, a story that connects their target market to the product being sold.

So it’s a resounding maybe from us. There is plenty of e-commerce success to be had for anyone and everyone, but it takes hard work and dedication.
